In April 2020, soon after lockdowns swept across Australia and with stress levels skyrocketing, Emma’s periods become irregular. “I was like, ‘This is strange, but whatever – it’s probably just stress,’ ” the 28-year-old student says.

She attributed her exhaustion to stress, too. Instead of being her usual buoyant self, Emma struggled to get through the day without dozing off.
