From Grassroots Vision to Lasting Impact

Our Story

SHE Gynaecological Cancer Group began with one woman’s vision and has grown into a compassionate, community-driven movement dedicated to supporting women with gynaecological cancers through care, connection, and community.

A Tasmanian Charity with a Purpose

About SHE Gynaecological Cancer Group

SHE Gynaecological Cancer Group is a Tasmanian-based charity dedicated to supporting women diagnosed with gynaecological cancers through care, connection, and community. Founded in 2015, SHE was created in response to the need for more personal, practical, and emotional support for women navigating the complexities of gynaecological cancer.

What began as a grassroots initiative has grown into a compassionate and community-driven organisation offering tailored care, raising awareness, and advocating for improved outcomes for women across Tasmania and beyond.

Our Core Values

SHE continues to grow with the same purpose that sparked its beginnings: a future where every woman is supported with compassion, dignity, and understanding from diagnosis through recovery and beyond.

Care

We believe in the power of small, thoughtful gestures. From our signature SHE Care Packs to direct hospital support, we provide comfort at a time when it’s needed most.

Connection

Whether through shared stories, volunteer programs, or our growing network of supporters, we foster genuine connections that make a real difference

Community

SHE is built on the strength of people coming together. From local volunteers and health professionals to families and funders, we are united in our commitment to improve the lives of women facing gynaecological cancer.

Capturing Hearts

The Story of Jo and Scott Harris

Jo Harris was a bright, driven Tasmanian woman. A mother, wife, and fierce advocate. In 2019, Jo was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer. Faced with a devastating prognosis, she chose action.

Instead of retreating, Jo leaned in. She joined local not for profit SHE Gynaecological Cancer Group with her husband, Scott Harris. Together, they built something powerful out of pain: a community, a cause, and a vision.

Jo knew cancer care wasn’t just about chemo and scans. It was about dignity. Connection. Support. It was about being seen and held as a whole person. She often said:

"We need more than medicine. We need comfort, connection, and dignity."

Carrying the Vision Forward

A Legacy Continued

Jo passed away in 2023. But her dream lives on — in every woman helped by SHE, in every Care Pack delivered, and in every conversation about better cancer support.

Scott, now Chair of SHE, continues to lead this movement. His devotion to Jo’s vision is unwavering. His leadership is bold and compassionate. Together, we now have a chance to help him complete what Jo began.
